Today I had my orientation at UBECI. There is one other girl starting volunteering this week. She is volunteering for three weeks and is doing the same project as me. Monica, the co-ordinator, told us how UBECI was founded and about the work we will be doing. It sounds like hard work but also very rewarding. We were also given our volunteer t-shirts with the UBECI logo on it. Child trafficking for prostitution and child labour is unfortunately widespread in Ecuador. The t-shirts help the mothers trust us with their children as they know who we are and that we are with UBECI.
Unlike most of the other volunteers I will be volunteering all day as I´m not taking Spanish lessons, but I can change my mind if I want to. I´ll see how I get on but the plan at the moment is to do the whole day.
